Faraday Discuss. 2016, accepted.
A method for estimating the composition of intermetallic compounds by the co-reduction process in LiCl-KCl melt was detailly introduced in this work. In this method, CVs with different reverse potentials were re-plotted with i vs t, and then the coulomb number of each anodic peak was calculated to estimate the atomic ratio in the intermetallic compounds. By this method, the composition of Ce-Al, Er-Al and La-Bi intermetallic compounds were estimated, and the obtained results were in good agreement with the previous works. It was found that a more negative reverse potential would be beneficial for a more accurate estimation. In addition, to obtain a more accurate estimation the formation of Li-M(M=Al, Li) intermetallic compounds should be avoided by adjusting the concentration of the relative metal ions in the LiCl-KCl melt.
