Synopsis
To understand the complexation of tetradentate N,N’-diethyl-N,N’- ditolyl-2,9-diamide-1,10-phenanthroline (Et-Tol-DAPhen, L) ligand with Eu(III), U(VI), and Th(IV), ESI-MS was used to probe the complexes formed in acetonitrile solution. The possible chemical structures, bonding characters, and thermodynamic parameters of M-L complexes (M = Eu(III), U(VI), and Th(IV)) were further explored by density functional theory (DFT).
